A Loving Welcome & Important Information

a bittersweet music calls from deep within

from a half-remembered vision forgotten long ago

of a placeless place beyond name and form

from the limitless space within the heart

it is an honor to welcome you back

about heart vision

what is heart vision: a tarot happening?
freeform, informal discussions toward a deeper understanding of the tarot’s beautiful imagery. we will delve into the tarot’s spiritual and mystical undercurrents, and utilize the deck as an instrument for self-contemplation. not a training course in card reading, participants will take part in a hands-on, hearts-open experience. a harmony of literature, poetry, music, drama, a diversity of sacred texts, and group sharing will assist in this ever-evolving, ongoing exploration.

what is meant by “heart vision”?
heart vision is moving into a deeper perception of unity—toward an integration of and reaching beyond that which is outwardly known with that which can only be understood completely by the heart. revelation unfolds within the open heart. much of this existence is an unanswerable mystery. when used with love, the tarot can illuminate the path we share.

what is meant by “unfold”?
an expansion into greater awareness. through the dynamic energy of a communal gathering, this can result in clarifying more profound truths.

in addition to non-spiritual works, will the sacred texts referenced in the discussions be from a particular path?
no. an interfaith approach is used in selecting the sacred texts so that many paths will be represented and celebrated in unison. Some of these might refer to a higher source using pronouns of a masculine, feminine, or non-gender specific nature (i.e. "He", "She","It", or "Beloved"). so please keep in mind the cultural and oftentimes ancient historical context in which some of these passages were composed.

what is not included in the discussions?
tarot card reading techniques, other than those used for self-contemplation; psychic or thought reading; telepathy; clairvoyance; clairaudience; precognition; spirit communication; or that which might be referred to as the paranormal or occult in the popular understanding of those terms.

will the discussion groups have a particular format?
just as deeper wisdom shared between hearts, the format will undoubtedly unfold in ways unknown at present. each session will last an hour and a half and, most typically, include a multidimensional exploration of an individual tarot card in a variety of ways.

should participants have prior tarot experience?
no. all are welcome. participants are very much encouraged to click here for some thoughts on the tarot and how the cards will be viewed in the discussion groups.

will the participants read the cards for each other or will the presenter do the same for any of the participants?
no. the presenter will share approaches to using the cards for self-contemplation. there may be exercises during the discussion groups to put these into practice. the poet Rumi once said: "Trouble not about others, for there is much for you to think about yourself."

can the role of the presenter be explained?
the presenter is not a wise guru, sage, or teacher—instead, a disciple of Love; perhaps these words by the illuminated Indian mystic, spiritual teacher, and musician hazrat inayat khan (1881-1927) will provide an understanding of this while pointing to the vital role of the participant:

truth by its very nature cannot be uttered, cannot be given. one cannot give that which cannot be put into speech….everybody possesses a kingdom, but he has to find it….no one can give spiritual knowledge to another, for this is something that is within every heart….there is always a great danger on the spiritual path that the disciple has to overcome—he may develop a feeling of being exalted, of knowing more than other people, of being better than other people. as soon as a person thinks, 'i am more,' the doors of knowledge are closed. he will no more be able to widen his knowledge because automatically, the doors of his heart are closed the moment he says, 'i know.'…the one who speaks is not always wise; it is the one who listens who is wise.
